Just 1411 left.

Just 1411 left.

Our national animal is fighting for its life.

From around 40,000 at the turn of the last century, there are just 1411 tigers left in India.

If we don’t act now, we could lose this part of our heritage forever.

Speak up, blog, share the concern, stay informed… Every little bit helps.

Aircel has partnered with WWF-India to help save our tigers. Explore the site to know how you can help.

I am sure this film will create awarness in not only true tiger and nature lovers, but in people who never thought seriously about saving tigers before. My congrats to Aircell for this and I thank everyone who visited the site to show the support. After all, it’s our combined efforts which may help this beautiful animal live happily and rule our jungles. I have been visiting indian sancturies recently and now I have decided that I will visit our Tiger Reserves to see our national animal roaring loud.
Love Tiger, Save Tiger because our jungles are in-complete without a Tiger.

if we dont go for saving such animals, then one day it will be our turn.

Save animals, save forest , save Environment.

But i can bet you no one from the government is ready to go ahead, as everyone is busy in corruption & waiting for “Khursi”

  8. Hamza says:

Do try and do your bit to the cause. Only when we show concern and interest will the government realize the need of the hour and take some stringent measures.Government initiative should be real fast or else we stand to loose our national pride.

    Dear Friends,
I think, the figure of even 1411 is highly inflated. If you take even the population of the rare Siberian tigers and the tigers of Sumatra and other places like Thailand, the number will be coming to 1411.
As till date, in our country the tiger census is not not done in a scientific method. We had till date followed the highly faulty 100 years old system of counting pug-marks of plaster-casts which were relevant in the British Raj.
What we need to do is do aerial surveys and radio-collar each of them with GPS position marking the range and movement of each reserve. We need highly efficient & dedicated people like you see in Kruger, Kenya, South Africa where they get dedicated people coming in from the Western countries to participate and rescue their wild animals to a sustainable population. Why can’t we do it here?
Our country spends Billions of Dollars of Taxpayers money to buy Military Hardware, why not spend a micro amount on a genuine cause?
More over we need to have a Gene-pool study to get a clear picture of the distribution of Genetic pattern of each Reserve. With a limited number of Reserves and placed far off, tigers cannot roam to other reserves to spread their Genes. So each Reserve is running a high risk of Genetic deformity and early deaths due to closed Genes group. The border areas of each reserve have to be cleared from all villages and domestic animals. We need safe dedicated forest corridors for animals to move freely from one Reserve to another.
Just Blogging “Do Something” wont Help. We need young politicians who are well-read and aware of the crisis, to come forward and set of a crack force of CISF or Para Military to deal with poachers, like they are dealing with the Maoist. Just no point in arresting poachers, when they come out on Bail within 7 days and start killing. We need strong laws to deal with them like life sentence without payroll or even death.

I can write hundreds of pages on this, but this wont help unless we act.
    Regards.

  12. Sugandh says:

Tigers may not be man’s best friend… they do have one thing in common with the man and that is LIFE… Life is as important to you and me as to a tiger… What are we doing depleting resources, poaching animals? Just because animals do not speak our language doesn’t mean that they do not understand what our we are doing. WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS EXTINCTION AND ITS WE WHO HAVE TO MAKE UP FOR OUR MISTAKES. So, WAKE UP!! Join this mission and save the national dignity and yourself.

  13. Jason Mcleod says:

It is very shocking to hear that only 1411 tigers are left in India which was and which is supposed to be the Tiger Capital of the World. The Government is to be blamed for this, they have not taken this issue seriously even though they knew this was happening for so many years because only a few people in the Government actually care about Wild Life and the Environment and all the rest only care about Political Affairs and Money. It will not cost the Government a big sum of money to set up the best security projects for Tiger Reserves and Forests around India to protect Tigers, Wild Life and Trees. They need to employ a huge amount of Forest Guards and Officers to be a part of these security measures, Villagers living in forests should not give poachers tips on where animals are located therefore therefore the government should provide the villagers with better living conditions and rations. All Educational Organizations around India should spread awareness about saving Wild Life and the Environment which is very important for the survival of the planet and the Human Race, the awareness programes should be explained in a simple manner but should be very effective to the listener so people will give the respect to Wild Life and the Environment the same way they give the respect to their parents. “Every Living Organism is precious in some way”

I still remember the day when I went with my uncle at Ranthambor tiger reserve where he used to work in creative department when I was a kid.. I just can’t describe enough how excited I was to Actually see the most bravest animal of this planet (my father used to describe Tigers like this).. Now I am a father of a 4 year old.. and just like mine she also has that special attraction for Tigers.. I really wish that one day I’ll be able to take her to the same place to show the REAL Tigers.. Let’s all UNIT and take a step forward and save one of the most beautiful creation of God on this planet.. Let’s make sure that if we see anything that’s happening illegal about tigers we’ll raise our voice to fullest extent and ensure that the culprits are punished.. Let’s RORE to make Tigers feel that we are with them and they aren’t alone…

  16. Sukarna says:

This is very touching to know that tigers are getting extinct. Nature has given us abundance of everything we need to survive ,but we are exploiting it for fulfilling our greed for getting more out of everything. More money, more comforts, and more and more and more. When will this end?
    NEVER.
The only thing which is coming to an end is ecological balance of our own Mother Earth and her beautiful creatures, one of them being TIGERS. why are we allowing them to be killed, why can’t there be an end to corruption in forest dept who are responsible to take care of them. When will we realize and wake up that its time to give back to nature and save our planet.

I feel that this issue should be handed over to responsible people who have no greed for money and the culprits should be punished harshly.

  29. ”There was a farmer who swallowed a fly. I don’t know why he swallowed a fly…perhaps he’ll die” ,and then it goes… ..he swallowed a bird to catch the fly , he swallowed a cat to catch the bird , he swallowed a dog to catch the cat ,he swallowed a man to catch the dog , he swallowed a horse to catch the man , he swallowed a cow to catch the horse…. ….,Idon’t know why he swallowed a horse …..he’s dead ofcourse!!!!!!…….SIGNS OF THE END OF MAN.
MAN himself is responsible for the dwindling state of the TIGER. We are SWALLOWING up it’s territory and food ,making them easy prey for poachers or dying due to starvation or being beaten to death looking for food in villages.
In INDIA we need to EDUCATE…. all around us ..children,the bai,the dhobi ,friends, villagers,a passerby ,a taxiwalla,a shopkeeper a labourer…….fellow passengers……because IGNORANCE IS BLISS!!!
1…DON’T produce more than ONE CHILD…our forests and farm lands are being encroached for housing our BURSTING POPULATION
2…STOP cutting forest and trees for commercial or living purpose…build houses furnitures WITHOUT WOOD. BAN THE USE OF WOOD.
3…STOP killings of smaller animals which are food for the TIGER….the tiger CANNOT survive without forests and FOOD
but …. ”SELFISH IS WHAT SELFISH DOES”… !!!!!SELFISHNESS NEEDS TO CHANGE TO SACRIFICE AND CONSIDERATION TO ALL.
we’re not only loosing the magnificiant TIGER but we’re also loosing a beautiful EARTH . It is a tremendous task to save the tiger .Political interference , human and religious sentiments should not be allowed by the supreme court .ONLY HONEST & SINCERE PERSONS should get together and ACT FAST……..Voluntarally make a group ,put our minds together, take help….someone start something………

One day will come our children will just see the photograph of the Tiger how our national animal used to look like and will not able to see the real one…

How would it feel if your family and kids feel if you were out working hard earning your family’s food and water and you do not return or never return?

Just because these animals cannot speak does not mean that we break their families and deprive their cubs of their mother’ love and care, do we have the right to do it ?

We form joint committes and have rallies, even riot when a member of our family is killed or destroyed in some communal riot, just becase we know how it feels to loose a loved one. Let us not take advantage of the fact that these animals cannot speak or express themselves. Lets be human lets save the TIGER, not because its our national pride or anmial but because it has life, feelings and emotions just like any human.

SAVE THE TIGER, BEFORE NATURE DOES IT FOR THEM AND IF NATURE DOES IT TRUST ME WE WILL NOT LIKE IT….

Would like to really appriciate and thank Aircel for the inititative that they have taken….ALL THE BEST GUYS ….. and GOD BLESS…

  35. Kunal Singh says:

Well, It is very shocking to hear that we have only 1411 tiger are left with us. Friends we are really not authorized to kill animals, Why i am saying this because this is happening due to some cruel peoples around. They bastards don’t even think about the animal, they just wants to kill them and sale if further, Which is really not very acceptable. Hence my humble request to all the people who are reading this blog, That we need to save our tigers, Because they are pride of our country. Please help those dumb animals who are really helpless. We need to really do something before its too late.

  36. Hi,
I am terribly shocked to know that ony 1411 tigers are left in India. Its not only a matter of shame but disgrace that we ‘Humans’ have become so selfish that we have encroached tigers’ space and stolen their lives.
Being a writer and a lyricist i dedicate this poem to the ‘Stripeys’. I hope it ‘Awakens’ us for its hight time now!

Tiger (Dedicated to Tigers: 05/02/10 @0051hrs)

I was lucky to be born wild
I was lucky to have Mother Nature by my side.
My parents were strong for everyone feared of them,
The sky was my world and the jungle my den.

I was proud to be one of them, for we had a mighty race.
‘Coz we got to roam around in sun and moon, at our own pace.
I had a bunch of friends and a few cousins, in here
And i sneaked out with them by the silent sleepy river.

Then one day the rules of the game changed.
A few us were nowhere to be found
A lot more died and gloom was to surround
Perplexed i was, and i was full of rage.

And then THEY came and told us it was not anymore safe,
That we would die soon and vanish will our race.
THEY promised us they won’t let anyone steal us of our lives.
For THEY would cut down trees and etch out safer boundaries.

Afraid i was for i saw my world turn upside down,
My close ones were nowhere to be found,
I had nothing but to trust in THEIR words,
At least i had ma and pa by my side, if not all my peers.

And then i get up today,
It doesn’t seem to be a just another day,
My ma and pa are not around,
I search and call for them in jungle far and beyond,

    Where has my ma gone?
    Where has my pa gone?
    What have i done wrong?
Where have my ma and pa gone?

And then i hear sounds and i tremble with fear,
    I find THEM coming near,
THEY pick me up and promise me safety
Only to hear at far, “Tiger bones are medicinal for they keep you hale and hearty”.

If someone can hear my cries,
If someone can wash away my tears,
Then let THEM know that they are terribly mistaken,
Stealing life from someone won’t make them breath again!

  47. RAJENDRA PAREKH says:

    Hi All,

This is a serious concern and its a duty of every Indian Citizen. Also I request to the concerned government, forest and anyone who is associated with this that the culprit of killing the tigers should be killed in the same way in front of the public and that video should be published by media. Government needs to find out where the fur and skins of tigers are coming from and to the end root they should take actions like never before. Also at least for a short period of two to three years the forest departments should appoint some temp staff for taking care of animals in the forests. I am from Junagadh near Gir forest, and I haven’t seen or heard of any tiger in Gir forest, There is a wide area and the tigers should be brought here and their population should be increased.

  48. Nadisha Basu says:

This is absolutely heart sinking and atrocious to know what we have done…If we have the human right to live, so do they.
We are not here to kill but to preserve the nature and fauna for us and our future generations. It is really embarrassing to call ourselves humans, we our no less than brutal killers and murderers. The poor cubs wait long for their mothers who because of us do not get to see each other. isn’t the cubs mother a mother to it? isn’t the mothers cub a baby to it? yes it is…just like the way our children our to us and parents to us. It is really shameful. It is us who has done this and got it to such a stage and now it is again us who need to work on it.
Its time we do something for our national animal before it is too late and we get to see this magnificent animal only in the books.
Join this cause, help them live.
Wake the whole of India up, no single individual should be left to do so and work towards their better future.
WAKE UP INDIA, WAKE UP PEOPLE, WORK TOGETHER, HELP THEM LIVE AND MAKE A FUTURE WORTH LIVING FOR THEM!!
