It’s very heartening to see support from all of you, but news like this dampens my spirit…

Sadly, this is not the only one.

It feels so bad that we reached such stage.. that we have to put in so much efforts to save our national pride… Tigers! Nevertheless, better late than never. Hope it leads us to a fruitful results…

yeah!!! rightfully said, instead of bashing the poachers we should be educating them and providing them alternative means of livelihood and this is the responsibility of the government which apparently choses to ignore it (we are a nation mauled by a zillion other problems of varying notoriety).
how will it protect the tigers if its busy amassing wealth and stuffing them by the billions in swiss banks. we are guarded by a lot of incompetent morons (not all though) who are too ignorant, selfish, silly and powerless to make about a change, the reason we ourselves need to take this in hand…
its not for nothing that india has the largest number of NGOs on earth, what is supposed to be done by the governemnt is done by them with varying degrees of effectiveness, transparency and accountability…

  3. Rohit says:

Arrange special cameras in the forests so as to catch the poachers, tresspassers etc and also it will be helpful to trace out the sick, diseased, disabled stray cats (tigers) and treat them medically and if possible arrange food for them.By doing this we can save and help alot of tigers from the mishaps.

  4. Rohit says:

We have to make huge borders/fencing so that no tigers should come out and hunt the villagers, cattles etc. in the nearby villages,as the records states that most of tigers decomes the victims in these hunting process in the villages. We have to deploy specially trained force personnel/squad around these borders in order to reduce the poaching of animals (especially tigers).By doing this we can save alot of them.

  5. G. Sai Chandra Govind says:

I’m always there to support, do reply me back through the email provided.

    The Memory Hole
    India Today
    Lucknow

After initiating a project to declare the Terai region of Pilibhit a tiger reserve two years ago, the Mayawati Government seems to have forgotten about the big cats. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), which is working to save the dwindling tiger population, had cleared the project. The Forest Department had sent the blue-prints of the proposed reserve to the Government 10 months ago.

“We have sent many reminders to the state Government but to no avail,” says S.P. Yadav, joint director, NTCA. India has 39 tiger reserves and national parks with a population of just 1,411 tigers. Maharashtra has been the only state to act on proposals sent by the NTCA for creating a tiger reserve; Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have been turning a blind eye to proposals for new reserves for the endangered cats.

  8. killing tigers is a offence. tigers are our national animal. we should speak to save our tigers. we should arrange strict security in forests and cameras. there are only 1411 tigers left. we should make big fences around the forests so that no tiger should come out of the forests and nobody should enter the forests.

  9. SUDHARSON says:

In in India when Million of Children die of malnutrition, millions of people live in substandard living condition without being able have one square meal a day, does it not sound ridiculours in making a such huge cry about 1411 Tigers and the meaningless support campaign through internet and other means sitting in posh metros of concrete jungle without even knowing what a jungle (tigerland) looks like. The real step would be the reducing of exploding human population that encroaches the jungle for its own whims and fancies (resorts, mining, infrastructure growth etc etc).

Did any one cared for the harmless common Indian Sparrow that was chirping in almost every house of India - where are they - they have become almost extinct like the Robin bird in America because as per the study holds that uncontrolled and unscientific proliferation of mobile phone towers is bringing down sparrow population, said Prof Zainudeen Pattazhy, who led the study. The study says mobile towers were found to emit electro magnetic waves of a very low frequency of 900 or 1,800 MHz.But this was enough to harm the thin skull of chicks and their egg shells. of the ultra sound signals emanating from Cell Phone Towers that scared them - but things keep going. Just think what fun we would make out if someone launches a campaign “SAVESPARROWS’ and say that Cell Phone Towers be banned? We are basically greedy, slaves of materialism and technology - so nothing can be done in the fast growing GDP targetted world.

Only when the greedy human population comes down, there would be a natural growth of jungle which would pave way for the growth of not only Tiger census but many others which we may not be knowing that are becoming extinct.

I feed not only bad but sad too that we have reached such a stage where the tigers are on the verge of extinction. The animal is being poached for the money the tiger parts bring. The poachers are none but Indians.Where is the so called nationalism? It money that counts ,either be our leaders or the Government servants be in any department. So is the sad affairs of the forest department.Poaching is not possible without connivance of these officers. Why these officers of the forest department are not made accountable for failing to guard for what they are paid? Mahendra Singh Dhoni or my joining this forum, writing here or pledging support is not going to help at all.If the government is serious and honest it should bring in new laws making poaching of these rare animals none bailable offence ,with death penalty. Those officers found guilty should also face a harsh punishment. It is not this animal only but jungle mafia is cutting down jungles and rare wood by the connivance with this forest department and this is state of affairs in every state. At this rate we will soon have launch another “save forest ” project.Mere empty words will not help without stringent laws.Similarly stringent laws be made for encroachers who encroach into these reserve forests.Officer who look the other side in the cases of these encroachment should also face the music.Similarly there should be no vote politics and politicians should not interfere in the matter. The state of affair in the country is so bad that there seems to be no fear at all for law breakers. It is free for all.If we are really serious let there be strong laws and accountability of forest department officials also who has brought us to this state.Otherwise even God cannot help us.Let nationalism be in our hearts rather than mere words on lips.

  15. soubhik Pathak says:

The has been lot of talking and blaming, its high time that we need to get up, and actively take these issues. Also it will not be possible without the support of each one of us. It is extreamly important to educate the people who live near the forest reserve for, if the tiger needs to survive we need to protect its habitat. In our country there is very little scope for any sort of research work for resolving the man animal conflict. We should concentrate on these areas.

I saw this article on HT - http://www.hindustantimes.com/rssfeed/india/Heftier-fine-jail-term-for-poachers/Article1-510462.aspx
According to this, he environment ministry has finalised amendments to the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, under which the maximum punishment for a repeat offender, in case of most endangered species, can be upto 10 years in jail or a fine of Rs 1 crore or more.

Havent been able to find any other write ups about the amendment! But i will be really happy if this is true! looks like our roars are starting to reach the government!

It’s indeed a shame that we’ve come to a point when we need to remind everyone about the tiger and its importance in our lives. Its time that all of us joined hands and found out active, realistic ways through which we can help tigers. Whether we’re urban or rural, there should be ways through which we can play our part and feel we’ve done something. Hope that we will not lose our national animal.

    Hi everyone!
We here are talking too much about this initiative. But, the real scenario in rural areas are different. Still, they don’t bother to kill these national treasure. Even today I have gone through a news in a news paper where it was mentioned that there is a incident of Leapard killing nearby Lucknow. The main challenge is to educate and create awareness among the rural people.
Thats what I am thinking. My full contribution and support is with you.
Thanx to start such a good innitiative.

They are allowed to view the census, obviously the students come back with hurtful results. PLEASE if u don t want to donate at least visit such places, PLEASE.. that will surely help.
If the no. of tourists increases, they(authorities) will be able to take up better actions.

    To,
    The Hon. Prime Minister,
    Sansad Bhuvan, New Delhi

Subject :- Request for the survey of Patteri Tigers in our area of Asaniye village, Tal – Sawantwadi, Dist – Sindhudurg, State – Maharashtra and provision for its conservation.

    Respected Sir,
Ours is village Asaniye situated at the bottom of Sahyadri Hills in the Sawantwadi Taluka, Dist-Sindhudurg (Maharashtra). The whole area is surrounded by dense and evergreen forest with rich bio-diversity. The villagers are prominently farmers engaged in growing cashew, coco-nut, beetelnut, kokam, jack-fruit, banana, chiku, mango, rice, nachani and other cash crops.
The Shivaji University- Kolhapur has worked and studied the ecological system of the Sahydri ranges of Maharashtra and submitted the report to central government known as ‘Sahyadri ecologically sensitive area’ (SESA). This SESA project was sponsored by the Ministry of Forest and Environment, Central Government – Delhi itself. It is for your kind information that Asaniye village falls under this SESA project area.
The area has the presence of varieties of wild animals and birds. The animals include Patteri Tiger, Bibtya Tiger, Black Bear, Elephant, Wild Boar, Crocodiles, Ghorpad, Tortoise, Wild Buffaloes, Kolsunde, Wolf, Salinder, Monkey, Wild Dogs, Samber, Kalvit, Bhekre (deer) as well as birds like Parrot, Eagle, Peacock etc.
The reason for writing this letter is to bring to your kind notice the existence of the endangered species of Patteri Tigers and to undertake necessary, needful and quick action to save the Patteri Tigers.
It is beyond doubt that this King of the Jungle is in full action in the surrounding areas of Asaniye village. Footmarks are regularly seen in the jungle. People hear the roaring and many people have also seen this beautiful yet endangered animal. Our village also has cases of Tiger attacks on cattles. The local people have time and again brought it to the notice of the forest department about the existence of the Patteri Tigers in the area, but the department has everytime turned a deaf ear to our requests.
We feel very sad at the state government departments who are bent at turning a Nelson’s eye to this fact.
To make the matters worse, the government has initiated Mining activity in our ecologically sensitive village of Asaniye and its vicinity.
We humbly request your kind office to look into the sensitive matter. Infact the SESA report (Sahyadri Ecologically Sensitive Area) points at the sensitivity of the whole of Sahyadri Region and in particular the Western Ghats (this includes Asaniye).
In the light of the above facts, we request that a survey of the Patteri Tigers be undertaken so as to conserve the rare species from utmost destruction and elimination.
    Thanking you in anticipation.

    Your’s faithfully,

    Sarpanch,

    The Prime Minister,

Sub- A request to cancel the proposed Mining project at Village Asaniye, Tal- Sawantwadi, Dist- Sindhudurg, Maharashtra.
The Kokan or the ‘Parshuram Bhumi’ is the part of Maharashtra which is well known for famous saints and brave warriors like Shivaji Maharaja. God has bestowed it with clean and beautiful nature in bounty. The village of Asaniye situated in Sawantwadi taluka is surrounded by mountainous ranges, small rivulets, water- falls, ponds, ever-green forests, clean-cool and unpolluted air, bright sunshine and the most beautiful natural surrounding which the ‘Mother Nature’ can offer. The District of Sindhudurg starting from the Arabian Sea to the Sahyadri ranges, itself is filled with natural beauty. Asaniye and the surrounding villages, namely, Zolambe, Fukeri, Gharpi, Tamboli, Konshi and Dabhil have the same natural beauty. Asaniye has the streams flowing all the year-round, hence farming ( gardening ) is the major way of life in the village. Fruits like cashew, Mango, Kokam, Jackfruit, Banana, Chiku, Supari, Coconut etc. are grown in abundance. The crops include rice, Nachni etc. are also grown in large quantity in Asaniye. In 1968, Government of Maharashtra had sanctioned an amount of rupees 4.00 laks for developing farming ( gardening ) in area of 270 acres and also for starting a farm society in the village. The government schemes was effectively implemented by the villagers. After innumerable efforts, the villagers have really converted the village into ‘ Sujalam – Sufalam’.
The District of Sindhudurg has been declared as a tourist district by the government of Maharashtra. Our village can be a focal point for tourist, as it has the beautiful gift of nature with rivulets, water- falls, ponds, green field and the beautiful ranges of Sahyadri. The highest point among these surrounding hills is the ‘ Hanumant- Gad’, the fort built by Shivaji Maharaja. From here, we can see the Goan seacoast and the Arabian Sea which is around 30 Km away. This is the ideal place for tourists who are looking for nature’s beauty.
The village of Asaniye is situated in the ‘Parshuram- Bhumi’, and has till now maintained it’s utmost faith in the village deity Shri Devi Mauli Devathan. Pepole believe that the goddess has the power, even to cure a victim suffering from a snake bite. People in the village are cent per cent teetotalers and not a drop of liquor is allowed in the village precincts. This has continued from time immemorial . Lakhs of devotees visit the temple every year during the ‘Utsav’ for ‘Darshan’ and ‘Teerth Prasad’.
The second place of worship which installed at the hands of the great warrior ‘Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaja’ is the ‘Dev Nitkari’ at Asaniye Gadghera. Six men of surrounding villages stayed with ‘Shivaji Maharaja’ for looking after the day- to - day affairs of the ShivaRajya, who are now referred to as ‘ Gadkari’. These ‘ Gadkari’s’ were offered an area of 1100 acres during the Shivaji Maharaja’s era, which continuous even today. This area covers the villages of Asaniye, Gharpi, Fukeri, Zolambe and few others surrounding villages, ( The land bearing survey no. 77 of Asaniye now considered for Mining pupose. ) The Hanumant-Gad and the other hills surrounding it has a continuous flow of water for all the twelve months, which help in the upkeep and development of the local community. The local populace – though not rich- are happy and content with whatever they get from the ‘Mother Earth’.
The thick and dense forest surrounding Asaniye is a storehouse of varied trees and plants, some of which are nearing extinction. Infact these flora maintain the ecological balance, not only of the Sahyadries but of the country and the Universe as the whole. The Shivaji University- Kolhapur has worked and studied the ecological system of the Sahyadri ranges of Maharashtra and submitted the report to central Government known as ‘Sahyadri ecologically sensitive area’( SESA report). This SESA project was sponsored by the Ministry of Forest and Environment, Central Government – Delhi itself. It is for your kind information that Asaniye falls under this SESA project area.
The Area has the presence of varieties of wild animals and birds. The animals include patteri Tiger, Bibtya Tiger, black Bear, Elephant, Wild boar, Crocodiles, Ghorpad, Tortoise, Wild Buffaloes, Kolsunde, wolf, Salindar, monkey etc. Along with these animals one also comes across Samber, Kalvit, Bhekre, ( deer), Nil Gai as well as birds like Parrot, Egal and Peacock etc.
It has been prominent duty of the villagers to maintain this vivid beauty of nature and propel it’s development. The Government also has many laws which are implemented and followed by the government officials and the gentry.
Nature among its many blessings, has also bestowed those this area with mineral wealth, like iron, gold and platinum. This is just as a salt granule has fallen in milk, whole beauty has slowly started getting eclipsed in the clutches of mining companies and few white collared rich people. These companies has given false promises to the farmers which includes full assistance in undertaking progressive farming. The ‘emotional blackmailing’ has started with providing financial assistance to local schools, temples, poor villagers and school going children. All this is an attempt to gain the land belonging to local villagers at very cheap rates.
There are also attempts to convince the farmers that their land will be reinstated to them along with water facilities. There are many middle – men and agents who are working day and night at falsely trapping the poor and uneducated farmers. The mining companies will reap profits in crores, but the land belonging to poor farmers will be destroyed forever. The same land which had nurtured the farmers for generations together.
Asaniye and its surrounding villages namely Fukeri, Gharpi, Zolambe, Tamboli, Konshi and Dabhil are on the verge of destruction. Mining activity will destroy the naturally gifted land and water forever. The village which was suppose to set the example for being the pivotal in the field of tourism, is fighting for its very own existence. It is an irony that such a beautiful place be specially marked for mining. If mining starts, there will be deplition and contamination of ground water, streams, ponds and all other water bodies. The ecological imbalance will have a disastrous effect. The villages, rich with natural ambience will suffer from water shortage. The jungles will be destroyed and the people who sustain on the jungle and the farm produce will cease to exist. The dust particles from the mining area will affect the surrounding areas of plantation of Cokum, coconut, arecanut, cashew, mango, banana and chiku etc. Even the green fields will turn barren. The contaminated water which will flow down the hills with minerals and oil residue will further harm villages situated at the foot hills. The ill -effect of mining will not be limited to our generation only but for the generations to follow. It has been observed, the areas surrounding mining activity has recorded an increase in number of people suffering from asthma, T. B., eye infection, anemia, asbestosis, silicosis, and other diseases. The generations together will suffer from sickness. One can see the destruction ahead of us. It is acceptable to have such projects in barren lands like in Rajasthan, Karnataka or Madhya- Pradesh. But such projects in the naturally beautiful green belt of Asaniye is not viable. One look at this green belt will surely impress the facts as given in this. It is not that we do not favour progress, but it should not be done at the cost of existence. Minerals are like the naturally bestowed wealth, which should be treated as ‘Gupta-Dhan’ and it neither should be touched nor plundered.
The State of Maharashtra has alternative sources of earnings, and has not reached a state of utter penury, where it has no other sources of income than the mining. It would be highly unfortunate if a handful of companies for their own selfish motives destroy the beauty of kokan and it’s peaceful dwellers.
Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj shed is blood for the sake of this land and its people which the mining companies are trying to confiscate by hook or crook. False promises and intimidation has resulted in many farmers selling their land at dirt cheap prices to the company agents and middle men. The mining companies will grow in size and profits, but at the cost of the poor local farmers.
With these views into consideration, we the villagers of Asaniye, Tamboli, Gharpi, Fukeri, Konshi, Zolambe and Dabhil unitedly and strongly oppose the mining project. It is our humble request to the government to send a fact finding team or a special committee to survey the mining project and to permanently stop the mining activity.

    Your’s Sincerely,

    The Sarpanch

    Village - Asaniye
The resolution of Garmsabha dated 14/11/2009 is enclosed.
Office copy of the application is signed by 610 villagers.

Already we have lost many specie of animals in last century. The animals are killed for commercial use,and for their skins.
In India in year1937 India had about 7000 tigers and now we have only 1411 tigers (estimated). Our national animal is extincting from our own country. Is there any one to save them. Can our next generation will be able to see tigers as we didn’t see many animals because no body was their to save them.
Can’t we take any precautionary measures against it. I know government has taken many measures to protect it but still it if not enough to protect them.
We have launched a campaign against protecting tigers in India and world . ( http://www.saveourtigers.com ) According to the estimates of biologist our tigers will soon extinct in year 2015.
We can do many things to save them please support us. In India many tigers reserves are there but still their extincting, we can provide more security to protect them, breeding of tigers all over the world , saving as many tigers as possible as from their illness by hiring vet.doctors, protecting their natural habitat as forest, etc. In some cases even government is responsible for the extinct of tigers in security purpose of tigers. Not only tigers are in endangered level of extinction but as well as lions of Africa and India, Blue whales in pacific ocean and sharks. Surely these fishes are killed to make cosmetic products from their skin and liver only for these thing they are killed. If one rich person dies all even after death he is there in news , television, etc. But if a animal dies we tell “we don’t care of animals they are the trouble on earth” is it good to say that. Even this generation does not have emotions against animals. If a animal kill’s a man you kill the animal back for protecting the man. eg : in Australia’s beach in 1980’s they killed many sharks when we asked why cause they started coming on the beach and tried to kill human . so they killed they sharks. so even if a human enters the region of animals and kills them illegally what we do? Nothing sit at home on a relaxing sofa holding a tea in hand and in other hand news paper and read and later forget it…. but if a animal kill’s a human when they go to office or any official they spread this animal is very bad it killed a human.
Think before telling anything.. How much important is each and every animal in ecosystem.human have brain to think but that poor, helpless animals what else they can do than dieing or escaping for this human world. we say animals come into the villages or cities.why do they come? Actually they don’t come we go in theirs area.

This is not the time for more speech this is the time to do some thing for our tigers. first we have to educate that people who lived near the forest and remiand them that how much precious is our tigers. and also educate our youth to do some thing for the better future for our tigers. they should be kept in a highly securd areas. and regular survey should be done so that better cure shoulad be given to them..these are the some points from which we can make some diffrence……………..

Dear Founders / Founder Member of this great Campaign,

I, first of all congratulate you for taking up this most awaited and long overdue campaign / awareness for our “So Beautiful” National Animal.
As a repsonsible Indian, I feel that I also can contirbute and would love to contribute in every possible way.

I have a very small suggestion, I am sure that you might have already worked upon the same and implimented also but I feel that raising funds through donations for this Cause might be more effective if we come up with T-shirts, greeting Cards, Caps, Car Stickers, Designer Helmets etc carrying the “Save Our Tigers” logo, pic & SMS reg same should be encouraged and the Organisers should use this money for the cause.

I think one of the telecom companies raised some funds for the 26/11 martyrs by donating the collections of all the SMS for about one hour on that day.

With Best wishes and hope that we would jointly be successful

i don’t understand why a 16 year boy needs to be highlighted for his efforts to save our nation’s pride………..this situation should never have arised……..it is such a shameful thing that central and state governments (with all the money to provide logistics) can’t put there best foot forward…

    i salute this guy….u r great man ..!!!!! :-) .. and u truely deserves all the applause u r getting

govt should take some steps like —-

    1) hiring more forest rangers, hike their salaries of the existing ( we had heard it many times that they get very less salaries); which whould act as a motivational factor.

    2) give them better instruments to track movements of tigers as well as poachers.. and very strict punishments

    3) give job opportunities to the people living near forest areas, infact they are the one who truely understand forests and animals living in them, so they should get jobs of forest rangers, so that they will not get involved with poachers to get money…open schools for their kids..etc..

    4) if govt can spend money on buying arms to safeguard india’s boundaries, than they can spend money to upgrade infrastructure for the safeguard of forest rangers and TIGERS….and that would be very minimal compared to defence budget…

i think we can go on and on with suggestions but it’s the govt who has to take final and effective steps…and we have not heard anything substantial from them..in the recent past…THEY SHOULD ACT ASAP…..

I DON’T WANT TO SPEND MY LIFE WITH MY KIDS SHOWING PICS OF TIGERS…and telling them we used to have this animal in india…

others counteries are taking lots of effective steps to save various endangered species…SO CAN INDIAN GOVT….it should act …..it’s high time that govt put’s it’s best foot forward…….

  32. Our Indian Govt have to do somethin about save tiger. now it was very major problem. every people need to think somethig unique.
    according to me some sollution:-
    1) provide tight security.
    2) hiden cameras.
    3) special cell for tiger.
    4) give better instruments to track movements of tigers as well as poachers.. and very strict punishments

  33. Jay Dubhashi says:

It is great the sponsors are taking up this initiative. To save our tigers is our duty.
    1. The blogs and the statistics of number of persons who have supported this cause online should be publicised. This may help in raising awareness.
    2. Awareness created during this campaign should be bhrougt to the attention of the government. Hope atleast this will improve the situation.
    3. It is easy to donate online to WWF which is working to preserve tiger habitat. So please donate whole-heartedly.
    4. I agree some fund-raising activities can make this campaign a success & generate some awareness among the common man.
    5. Last but not the least, urge all your friends to sign up for this campaign via this website, mails, facebook etc.

  34. Kapil Rohatgi says:

Wake up wake up!!!! it is sad to hear the killing of two tiger cubs at Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve……what’s happening…when are we going to learn about tiger conservation…culprits should be hanged to death

  35. Prasanna Kumar S J says:

A good move to saving our tigers by our Union Minister by declaring Parambikulam, Kerala being declared a Sanctuary for tigers. Indeed a great move to save our precious Diamonds(Tigers) but not really Great.

The Union Minister has guaranteed 2 crore annually to each of the 38 tiger reserves which will not even be enough to employ forest rangers for patrol. It’s not just the Central Government that is to be blamed but the State Governments too, who never take any steps towards conservation of the our priceless wild life.

Official reports say that we have 38 tiger reserves in the country but the true fact is these reserves do not even posses any tigers. These reserves have become an hostile environment for these beautiful wild species.

When ever we put any particular part of a country for conservation of any particular species it is not that species which is conserved which gets all the protection but a wide variety of other animals also get benefited from this move.

If many others nations are letting foreign wildlife conserves and observers to work, help in understanding and also adopting the various methods being used in animal conservation then why is India not doing the same.

Unless we open our gates for foreign wildlife conserves to work in our soil along with the local people of the particular region and also with wildlife officers from our country conservation of any particular species in there natural habitat is going to be a difficult.

And unless we direct more funds towards wildlife conservation achieving our goals and saving our tigers is going to be a difficult process altogether.

Lets give our Tigers what they need. Let save them by working together.

  36. Manpreet singh says:

Thanks to this young boy for doing so much to save our tigers . We really need more people like him coming forward to save our tigers. And also the media is not covering this thing on a large scale. I think that they will cover this when there’ll be no tiger left. I wud also like to help them and I ve started doing ma bit in my own way . But not getting positive support from people around me. But I wont stop and letz hope that Govt. also starts doing something in for our tigers…

  37. Manu says:

To save these God’s wonderful creatures we will all need to put in some efforts directly on indirectly. Wild life parks, sanctuaries can be opened but what about the poachers. Poachers work very nicely along with forest guards. With science finding new ways I am sure Chinese dont need to use tigers bones for their medicines. We don’t need tiger skin or bones. We have no right to destroy God’s creation whether it’s dangerous or not.

  38. Yogish Kamath says:

Have you considered privatization as a means to save tigers ?

Tigers are close to extinction because they are nobody’s property. So, nobody has an incentive to ensure that they stay alive and reproduce. Infact, there is a strong incentive for poachers to kill and use as many as they can before somebody else does. It is the classic “Tragedy of the Commons” problem.

Government has no incentive to save tigers either. If tigers go extinct, the Government will not lose any votes or party funds.

If we have tiger farms, then the owners will manage and gradually grow the population like they do for other livestock. Tigers will be in no more danger of extinction than cows or sheep.

Similar ideas have been tried in Zimbabwe for elephants and it has been a huge success.

Please don’t let ideology stand in the way of saving tigers. Privatize now!!

  39. Gaurav says:

We must stand up and take pride in everything that is NATIONAL, be it national animal, sport, flag, anthem or anything.

Death penalty for the poachers is what is required to deter the poaching of tigers. please read more at http://www.gauravarora.co.uk/2010/03/tiger-tiger-burning-bright-in-forest-of.html

  40. Alicia says:

Hats off to Prannay!!! We really need people like you boy!!!

We should treat animals with love and care for them. Cuz they also have a soul. By makin us the most advanced species, God has given us the responsibilty to look after His other beings, and not to hurt them or kill them. Shame on us for failing to carry out His given task properly. Spread love not hurt.

  41. Divyesh says:

It is very bad that we woke up late but it’s very good that we wake up.forgot the yesterday and now think about tomorrow, let we do something for our NATIONAL ANIMAL.it is shameful for us that we are not doing anything for our national animal. But from now we will do something for them,Atleast i will do.i will try my best to do something for it.I will email my all friends that please do something and m sure that i will get some good news. i m requesting u to please do something for our tigers, hope u will, won’t u?

Hi,i want to place a request to concerned animal welfare authorities that they should try to pass a strict tiger conservation bill from central government so that hunters must think many times before hunting tiger or any other endangered species.

It is very painful to hear the news of fall down of our national animal.can we hear ever the news of rising tigers?

Yes definitely, but we have to contribute a lot for hearing this news.one can manage seminars, silent walks etc. to increase the strength of peoples roaring for tigers.

Electronic and Print media should be used as a strong weapons in this movement.

    Thank you.
    Akshay jain

  43. P.Satish says:

What about submitting an RTI to the Government of India asking what it is doing to save the Tiger. I don’t know if this a practical suggestion but doesn’t the GoI have a duty to answer questions. And if they can’t do anything about it then India might as well change the animal to something else which won’t get extinct in just a decade.

  44. Yog says:

Alright people. Enough of talking, all we Indians can do is talk tlak and talk at length. We can talk about what others should be doing. WELL STOP TALKING / BLOGGING ETC ……

    ACT NOW:

Reduce pollution / Educate people to keep the Population low / Use resources carefully / Be responsible to your fellow citizens and living beings around you.

ACT - TIGER WILL BE SAVED.

  45. Yash verma says:

    tigers!!!!!
our national animal but are they treated as they are being called i think no but why this is happening can anyone tell the answer from most of the people come as to be no this is only because of the humans greed that make them blind and could not understand the feeling of the wonder full creature of god.
If you take even a smallest step to show your awareness towards this issue this smallest step can convert into a big step
so by this i sum up my notion.

  46. Nitin says:

    Save Our Tigers

    Just 1411 Left !
However do you really think the number is correct ? After every few days we are coming across news regarding killing of Tigers.
During our school days , we used to proudly say
Our National Animal is Tiger !

But How it feels to say that our National Animal is in trouble. He needs our help or even our National animal is on verge of extinction. What if there will be no Tigers left?
    What we will say then
Our National Animal was Tiger !

It is a matter of serious concern for our government as well as for all of us.The animal for which we all feel proud. The most beautiful and strong and unique cat of its own type is facing serious problems regarding its existence. It time to help or it will be late forever.

    What we can do ?

Nobody will ask you to go out to forests and save the Tigers.Even a small help can do wonders.
    Spread the awareness
If we see, basically there are two main reasons for tiger killing.First is poaching. The poachers kill the tiger because they can earn money.Second reason is people who are not aware take tiger as threat and kill them.Due to encroachment, people cutting down trees and moving to land which actually belong to the big cat. When people find these cat in those location they kill them to remove threat.
We must try to spread the awareness regarding this. The Tigers are much more than just a commodity for selling or threat to ones life. It’s us who are bigger threat for the Tiger.
Spread awareness.Ask people not to kill Tigers.Tell them that Tigers are not a threat.Tigers love peace.Don’t bother them and they won’t harm you.Give them respect.
    Don’t Kill Tigers

We should also remember that we are humans. One of the kind of animal only.We have been given power of thinking not we shall rule the other animals; however we must try to protect other animals.
Also we should give it a thought that if we don’t do anything now, then it could be us who might face problems in future as Humans destroying Humans !
