Just 1411 left.

Our national animal is fighting for its life.

From around 40,000 at the turn of the last century, there are just 1411 tigers left in India.

If we don’t act now, we could lose this part of our heritage forever.

Speak up, blog, share the concern, stay informed… Every little bit helps.

for those who have been fortunate enough to see a tiger in the wild -and then reflected on the sighting -there is a surreal ,mystical quality about the tiger -almost as if exists in a space between reality and myth.
I have often reflected on this-yes-it does exist-yet its presence carries a message so powerful that to acknowledge it as yet another animal in the wild is impossible.
The tiger is infact -in a manner so as to speak -a messenger-a presence that tells us all is well in the forest -that the complex relationships and the interdepencies in the ecosystem are in place-that the natural order prevails and each component of the ecosystem is playing its natural role -and playing it to a level of excellence -infact well enough to support the ultimate pride of the forest -the tiger!!
The tiger therefore manifests so much more than yet another wild animal-infact a healthy and flourishing tiger population is ,by itself, sufficient information thatb the forest is healthy.
The decline of tigers is symptomatic and tells us all is not well -that we have not been able to protect our forests sufficiently -that our intrusions no matter how well disguised or contrived are interrupting and violating the natural flow and order that exists-that we have not learnt to coexist as a species.
The question is not whether we deserve the tiger -it is whether the tiger deserves us !

  6. Sharmistha Iyer says:

Yes , Corporate India only can help this drive in saving the tigers,Government can only do so much.We need concentrated effort to stop poaching and illegal hunting which would be followed by close monitoring and any other help required by these precious animals in surviving and breeding.Indians can make this as an example to the rest of the world , in not only making this project a success but also maintaining it in the coming years.

  7. niczy says:

  9. nandini says:

Guys lets do something…after all if we raise enough funds and involve enough people, we wont need to wait for government action…after the govt has done precious little in all these years…

  10. Bhargavi Tirumala says:

few thoughts. since the problem is grave and solution needs to be immediate and multifactored
    1. greed/poverty/vanity drives people to poach these beautiful cats. punishment alone will not solve the problem.
    a. greed : punish severely and shame the culprits
    b. poverty : if they are sincerely regretful - how about including them in the campaign actively to protect the tigers and pay them(for the next 5 years?). the payment could be linked to every tiger saved. funds could come from the common man, corportaes instead of waiting for the government to do something
    c. vanity : continued awareness?
    2. conserve their natural habitat. let wild remain wild. no intrusion in their turf for recreation and very limited intrusion for education
    3. not just protecting the tigers from poaching - protecting their prey too
    4. acknowledge and applaud the good work already done
    5. spread the word

  12. Naren says:

Hi all..I am an animal lover,I am really fond of all living creatures and such a beautiful creature like Tiger!!Its getting extinct,so sad.I am ready to do all possible things to save them.I think as an individual ,I can spread the awareness about this campaign to all over the city and thus ultimately it will be spread all over the country. For that I need some BANNERS,may be few “T-SHIRTS.”This will certainly attract the people around and even the Tiger killers could get a lesson form this.I urge from the AIRCEL to take my blog into consideration and help me in progressing this campainge by providing me the BANNERS AND T-SHIRTS.

  13. sunil kaushal says:

A shame for all Indians for losing the National Heritage. We all have to unite to save this beautiful animal to save our environment & ourselves. It should not happen that our future coming generations see Tiger in books & posters. We all need to contribute & do best of us to make this mission success. I will do my best on my part.

  14. sayan says:

i want to save them in any cost

  15. Mahasweta Saha says:

India is quite well known throughout the world for its famous TIGERS along with other aspects ! Its a matter of pride to us.With only 1411 tigers left i doubt , how long we could be proud of that.As a responsible young citizen,i find it to be my duty, to JOIN the ROAR and do whatever i can in terms of blogging, commenting etc.I request, mainly the youngsters to take a lead and do whatever they can!

  16. Waquar Pall says:

Its been a shameful act … how it happens & what are the causes, we say we can do it but do we actually mean it. well my state is not to
embarress anyone , however I also stand at the same count, but defenitely wish to give my cooperation at fullest. I request the concerned authorities and hope a kind response in the same. Let us be a good citizen then only we can do something about this. Appeal to all to protest against this insane fact.

  17. vinay agarwal says:

  18. joshna says:

I am Joshna and This is very sad to her that only few tigers are left , how we have rights to live in this world even the animals have the equal rights , then why this is happening , govt should take serious action regarding this because wildlife is very important , even they have to enjoy the nature as we do , yes i agree that rather than sitting here and writing blogs and discussions wont help the wild life , we have to take a serious action and need to talk to the govt so that how can we prevent and how we can give security to these poor animals , it is very heart touching that a cub is waiting for her mother to return , so plz i request everybody to join this movement and lets us give the better wild life to our future genration , so that only stories should not be there about the national animal …………….

  19. Rusbe says:

    People…
    Whats wrong with us… !!
Save this beautiful piece of Gods work…before it vanishes…
Its nt jus an animal , its a symbol guys.
    1411, tht’s pathetic…

  20. Brijesh says:

It is a worrying fact for us that only 1411 tigers have been left. Despite several projects and money from government number of tigers has been reduced because of the corrupt burocrats and politicians. It is time for a revolution to save wildlife of our forests. For the purpose there is an urgent need to identify the priorities and to act against the poacher-politician-burocarets nexus. Scientist have to speedup reserach activities to evolve methods for conservation of tigers.

  21. shivani says:

its not that tiger is our national animal so it should be protected every living being has a right to live. its high time now not only we a few ppl blogging here or aircel should fight for it each n every person from every corner of the country should raise a voice. our GOVT should take very very very strict action for those killing this beautiful creation of GOD. there are many more sources of earning money or recreation then y kill this innocent animal.

i have always been very fascinated about tigers. whenever i go to ZOO i make a point never to miss out on them. what a powerful, strong & huge living being.

its time for INDIA to unite keeping aside those barriers of state, caste, religion, status etc..etc..etc…Lets SUPPORT THE INITIATIVE TAKEN BY AIRCEL & BRING A REVOLUTION SO THAT NO ONE EVER THINKS ABOUT KILLING ANY ANIMAL AGAIN…IM AN INDIAN & WANT OTHER INDIANS TOO BE A PART OF THIS REVOLUTION…..

  22. Apoorvi Singh says:

The tiger is our national animal- that everyone must be knowing. But how many know the number of tigers left in India? Not many, I suppose. Our coming generations need to know about the national animal, but where will it be?????? In the books???? in the gallery of extinct animals????? At least, someone thought of these poor animals and spoke up (Aircel). Many people have finally understood the scarcity of the tiger.
The advertisement at least moves the heart of even the hardest person. The little cub is the perfect example of the declining species. Why are these animals hunted???????? For their skin? Bones? Blood? For respect? Whatever may be the reason, it leads to a drop in the number of tigers. Speak up or the the number of tigers will drop down and down and down and down. . . . . . . . . . C’mon India. Its our turn.

  23. Sourav Shah says:

Man has ruined and destroyed this planet with his greed for more and more..lets please save this beautiful animal and give back to the planet what we have taken away in large quantities. A tiger is the most splendid creature and too valuable to ever lose. Please do your bit and save the tiger. Be environment conscious and reuse, recycle, plant a tree, unplug your chargers, dont drive when u can walk..every small bit counts..

  24. rohit Saini says:

I will suggest if big coprate houses like Tatas , Relience industries start adopting these tigers .. their are chances we can see growth .. It might sound funny but if these business houses can spend money in launches .. i believe they should adopt them……

    Regards

  26. Rajat says:

We share this planet with other creatures ……… “Human dont own earth”. Better respect this fact and start acting like human…….

  27. K.Chandra Sekhar Naidu says:

    Let’s save the world …

It is not that we are saving tigers; in fact we are saving ourselves. Anyone who watches Discovery, Animal Planet or National Geography, knows that it is humans (amazing we call ourselves humans) causes damage to mother earth.

I suggest that we shall make all efforts to save every animal, not only tigers.

 Educate kids / students at every level or state of education on the importance of animals in the eco–system.
 Educate public on myths against tigers.
 Don’t buy goods made of animal body parts.
 Use celebrities to campaign against the use of products made of animals skin or other body parts.
 Inform / publicize / expose people using goods / articles made of animal skins or other body parts.
 One page in every national newspaper shall publish the facts relating to every animal / news informing cruelty on animals to prevent their reoccurrence.
 Media shall expose the wrongdoers in the public at its full strength – it is a very powerful weapon in today’s world.
 Strict legal action against those who trespass land allotted to wildlife reserves.
 Every school shall be advised to take students on educational tours to wildlife reserves / national parks; it also generates revenue for using their welfare.
 Government can be asked to provide tax incentives for contributions to wildlife / animal welfare – hope many people will donate.

To maintain the ecological balance of the earth, every creature in adequate numbers has to survive, otherwise the end of the world is not too far.

These are few suggestions, which I felt like sharing…

  39. Ojing Megu says:

I hope many of you (if not all) know a little about a place called Arunachal Pradesh. It is in INDIA and not CHINA. If not, I request you to google it out and you will see that out of the 83773 sq km of area, about 80 % is forest covered. If the Govt. or the Private or the NGOs (WWF, etc) or even any individual is really interested in saving so called OUR TIGERS then Arunachal Pradesh is a hot spot for them. There are lots of Tigers (yet alive, but don’t know for how much more time) to be save. Not Only that, there are also many other endangered and endemic species found here. I don’t know why the hell are the Indian Govt. wasting fund and time to make a tiger live and survive in Ranthambore, where there are more poachers than total wild animals (leave alone the tigers). I have sent some picture and photos taken during 2008 march to the WWF and IUCN, but didn’t get a response from them. If any party is really interested, and have enough fund, then focus on North East India instead of getting publicity in the media for their not worthy works done to save the TIGERS.

  40. Raj says:

Hello Everyone… If any industrialist or any politician is reading this plz read carefully India is known for their culture and tigers are also the part of same… money is not the solution for everything… we have brains, power and everything that we need but wat about these cats who will take care of ? This is the only time at least for once come and unite together to increase the number of TIGERS ….

  41. Atul Choudhary says:

Can somebody post this to the prime-minister of india directly? I get only 500 words limit on the section of feedback on the prime-minister’s website. That is not at all enough to convey my feelings in this matter.

    Respected Prime-minister Sir,

This is with respect to the movement to save our national animal Tiger from extinction.
I am moved by seeing the recent movement by saveourtigers.com and realized that we as humans have made mistakes on our part to save this planet from our wrongdoings. One of the affected specie is our precious national animal ‘Tiger’. I was brought up in a city Called alwar near Sariska Tiger reserve and always knew that something was being done to save this legendary animal. Now I am realizing that whatever was done was not enough as we have seen a steep increase in the killings of this specie in name of tiger-human conflict or in the name of developement by encroachment of their habitats or by the hunters for monetary purpose. We have failed in saving this king of jungle from the disgraceful death. As I am touched and trying to do my bit by spreading the awareness, I am fiding myself very limited in resources.
We need people like you at high level with their extreme resourcefulness who have the power to bring in the change. I consider you as one of them who can definitly make the difference. Please do something about it before it is too late and we indian loose our heritage to the hands of some poachers who value money more than life. These people are not less than the poeple who kill other man for money.
I pledge my support for our endangered national animal and plea to bring in some policy changes within your power that will definitly make the difference and bring back our TIGERS the happiness and the freedom to roam in our land freely without any fear and spare these little cubs from the horror as seen in the advertisement of this campaign.
    One of you fellow indians.
    Atul Choudhary

  42. Ishita says:

this is a serious matter………look at this little tiger….his mother is not there for him…..if we continue acts like poaching and become inhuman ….then think deeply about it…..there will be many more tigers like little stripey…..they r the national heritage…..
REMEMBER:TIGERS ARE NOT TO BE POACHED….

  43. sanyukta says:

guzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!plzz do stand up fr every tiger after all its an indian property and we should save it and suppose if your family members are dying inplace of these tigers then will u nt protect them????????????? think and then do the same

    AS I DID

i feel killing tiger should come under indian law for cold blooded murder IPC 302
That is only way to save tigers in india
    Think again

  45. shaival says:

We share this planet with other creatures ……… “Human dont own earth”. Better respect this fact and start acting like human…

  46. saurabh dey says:

Tigers are not only animals rather, they are the diamonds of nature, and if we continue to be careless about our diamonds, its my biggest fear that we’l lose our diamonds. The government requires to give more security and shelter to this loveable creature. Even except our government, we indians also need to protect our natural heritage, by just keeping an eye out for the poachers and hunters, we can also contribute to protect our national animal. I am a bengali by name and an indian by heart and a tiger, is a matter of pride for both bengalis and indians. Awareness holds the primary key about the protection of this ceature. Corporate houses, Sports personalities, film actors, govenmantal institutions etc, everyone needed to come forward for the protection our india’s pride. so let’s stand up for tigers and promise ourselves that we are not going to lose our national pride, at any cost, so chak de india n chak de shera!!!

  47. karan saxena says:

we the humans have exploited all the living creatures.because of us they are in a verge of extinction…..because of the increasing demands of leathers, bones, claws and teeth of tigers….tigers are been killed….we the people should take some action..we cannot expect anything from the goverment …..past so many years the poaching has been increasing, what were the forest officials doing….its us that has let it happen…but now we have to something to save those poor tigers who are fighting for their life….do something or the other like i am promoting this in my college and spreading awareness are you taking up some measures????

  48. desai jinal says:

    hey wat’s happening?
we dn’t have any right to kill our national animal like dis..
its not onlly dat tiger is our national animal so we should nt kill it but it is our natural heritage. it is our animal of pride.
do we just kill them 4 maintaining d “fashion” and adventure?
den this fashion and adventure is of no use..
i dnt want dis fashion, adventure and thrill..
can we kill d innocent animals 4 fullfilling our needs? and those animals who just dnt know 4 wat they r killed?
are we humans dis much cruel?
c’mon show some courtsy and humanity to save our tigers.
and if we dnt den i will lose my faith in humanity.and i hv just realised that world is dis much cruel and unfair.
plz plz plz “save our tigers”. make d roar louder and alive.

  49. India Hotels says:

Spread the roar to every1 if tigers die the number of predators in the wild reduces and thus number of herbivores increases causing an imbalance in the food chain…tigers are needed to maintain this balance, they save our greenery n help bring rains..rains which water our fields and help us get our food

  50. Abhishek raj says:
