Our national animal is fighting for its life.
From around 40,000 at the turn of the last century, there are just 1411 tigers left in India.
If we don’t act now, we could lose this part of our heritage forever.
Speak up, blog, share the concern, stay informed… Every little bit helps.
Aircel has partnered with WWF-India to help save our tigers. Explore the site to know how you can help.
Watch this space for updates from Stripey, the tiger cub.
Dear Roaring tigers,
It’s really awesome to see such a overwhelming support for the initiative.
What I feel is that we, as proud roarers, must do evry bit of help we can do for our dear tigers…
Helping and conserving Tiger habitats can also help to maintain the eco system , which in turn, is essential for the survival of humans….
SO, we, as young enthusiastic guys can help to bring this fact in the government’s eyes to take immediate measures for the tigers…
we must spread the word about this initiative to as many people as we can , and be informed about our national hero….
Thank you Aircel and keep roaring…….
Rooaarrrrr……….
Great Effort on the part of all concerned. Let of us do our bit to save this great animal. Nothing beats catching a glimpse of a tiger in the wild. May our concerted efforts bear fruit. May God bless the tigers !!.

I am really excited by the aircel initiative to save our tigers. . .i am just 14. . .but i have immense affection for nature and its gifts. . . it is really good to know that someone has taken the lead and i cant wait to join in. . the projects and presentations sometimes shown in our school and the rising articles about tigers in newspapers have helped me set my views. . .i really hope that this aircel initiative succeeds. . . wish it all the best. . .people SAVE OUR TIGERS. . . .
tiger it is not just an ordinary animal its the animal of our nation .a symbol of pride and honor. its a very good initiative but is it really sufficient to protect tigers.
now only 1411 are left and they too are in great danger. we all must not wait what other are doing to protect them. lets all join are hands together and do our part to protect them.
lets try to be green and adjust ourself according to nature rather then adjusting nature to our needs.
we don’t have much left.
lets join the roar and show the world the how proud we Indians are at our national heritage and and to what extent we can go to protect it
lets us all take an oath to protect our national heritage
let’s say good bye to the products made from animals.
lets protect it so that our younger generation can also feel the same pride on our national animal

“If we don’t act now, we could lose this part of our heritage forever” . The whole concept of save our tigers is commendable. Hats off to the initiators. I just want to make 1 point: I am taking part in the initiative not to save a part of our heritage, but because its time to pay back to TIGERS and all other animalforms for all the wrong we have done all over the years. HUMANS are SELFISH. But we have to remember 1 thing that if we are not ready to co-exist with nature EVENTUALLY WE DO NOT EXIST AT ALL
i think the initiative is indeed gr8… but we shld not forget that we humans are the prime cause for their destruction its now the high time we did sumthing…… anyway i did feel good at least i m taking a little step to save our nations pride.i think the govt too shd take stringent measures to prevent poaching and hunting and the guilty must be punished no matter who they r whether they are a politicians son or a superstar a guilty is a guilty! and it is not only our responsibilty to protect tigers but all kinds of animals….and we shd take some major step. i wish there was some more power in our hands that we could make use of…all the best stripey ! i just wish i cud do some more to help u!
hiiiiiii dear indians,
Come on dear, its the time to pull our socks to save our national animal “The Tiger”. Respect and care for our national symbols is also our respect, love, devotion towards oue motherland ” India”.
I really appreciate the works of “Aircel” and “WWF-India” towards saving of our national animal “Tiger”. Being a student of class 10th i would also like to draw my concerns toward this outstanding efforts. I would like the concerned authorities to make a commite of well educated and skilled teachers or persons and let them go to small villages and literate the rural people specially about the extinction of tigers. There should be publication of pamplets and articles in newspapers to create an awareness among the people living in each and every part of India. I know its not an easy task but we should also know that pot is filled by small drops of water only.
I would like that the youngster and even students should come forward and take part in this mission of saving “Tiger”. till date tiger helped us any many ways. They helped us in maintaining our ecological balance, even after their skin is useful to humans. So now its our duty and responsibility to save them.
Hoping my suggesstions and encouragment will be helpful in this kind mission of saving Tigers.

Tiger tiger regent of the night
silently prowling at the night
then two shots
tiger is on the ground
without it’s hide
who killed the tiger?
poacher poacher all cried
who is the poacher
when i ask
no answer at first
but when i say
i am the poacher
kill him kill they all say
kill me i don’t mind
but kill the animal in you first
then only tiger can prowl
at night without the fear of
losing the hide
tiger tiger the regent of night
silently prowling at the night
Investigations carried out in 1993-94, during which a total of 36 tiger skins and 667 kilos (1470 pounds) of tiger bones were seized in northern India, brought to light the severity of the problem. The illegal trade is now widespread and in the hands of ruthless, sophisticated operators, some of whom have top level patronage. There is also evidence that profits from the wildlife trade are increasingly being used to fund armed insurgency in north-east and north-west India. A tiger can be killed for as little as just over a dollar for the cost of poison, or $9 for a steel trap. Much of the tiger poaching is done by tribals who know their forests well. They are usually paid a meager amount (in a case near Kanha Tiger Reserve, in May 1994, a trader paid four poachers $15 each for killing a tiger), their hunting talents and knowledge exploited by greedy traders. It is these traders and the middlemen who make substantial profits from the illegal trade in tiger parts.
If an offense is committed against the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, there is a maximum sentence of three years imprisonment or a fine which may extend to Rs. 25,000 or both. What I think is that minimum sentence must three to five years or further be increased as per the offense with no bail allowed at all.
We will certainly work to save our tigers!
But we just need some support to start the work!
We request some support from the government and we assure the tiger number from 1411 to 40,000….and….we mean it.
Hi!!
Whose so ever reading this I request you to help this project started by Aircel by any means you can .
come on , don’t let our national animal extnguish from our country. so HELP
IT’S NOW OR NEVER……..
1411 is left….but government will take action only when the numbers are around 400-500 not being pessimist but it is true fact…since it is our government in the end; Unless and until we force them to take action on the matter.
Hi, this forum has caught my attention and for the first time i am scared of the extinct number of this beautiful creature… i wonder if the 1411 count is still there and hope that the upcoming survey will give us some good news…. we sometimes forget that if we kill them, we will be killed as we are imbalancing the nature’s proportions… i would like to know name of some genuine NGO’s based in Delhi with whom I can participate in saving these lovely cats… love them
hey…
its so nice to see that so many ppl actually care:)….hope we all can make a difference…..our national animal needs us, we will du what d government cant!…keep up d good work…..n hats off to aircel!!……
Hi everyone
WWF has done a tremendous job by taking the initiative of saving our tigers and this effort should be whole heartedly motivated and supported. I feel that it is our duty to be informed and be aware of the fast declining numbers of tigers. come on everyone its high time now only 1411 tigers are left just imagine India which is often called as “THE LAND OF TIGER” would have no tigers left. I will do whatever i can to save our heritage………our Tigers.
I guess, ministry should look into this matter more seriously, they should create more and more reserves where both biological and ecological needs for a better habitat should be perfect and stable. This might be one of the way save our dear tigers. Poaching is not the major threat these days, tigers are dying due to various viral infections and environmental changes. Changes in the environment is the major cause and threat as per my personal view is concern, our ancestors, forefathers century ago were my more healthier and immune comparatively to us, that because of the good environment and a better climatic condition, today we need so many things to keep ourselves fit and healthy. Just like us Tigers also need some special care and needs to survive. If we follow up the exact needs and care right now, then again the figure will be transformed to 14000 within next 20 years.
guys this is a awesome work to save your country’s national animal. I’m not from India but still i love this animal soo much. thats why i came in to this web site and joined in. please save this creatures to us to show them to our children in the future…………………
We need to save our national animal at any cost. For thsi first and foremost is to provide foool prrof security to our national parks. Any poacher found poaching should be shot dead mercilessly. In our country influencial poachers go scot free as heroes.Unless politicians keep away from sheltering such people , all roaring would only be a hoax call. A poor villager may kill an anaimal for a living but many well to do hunters including film starts kill for pleasure. If they really want to display their courage and chivalry , why kill innocent dumb animals. Let them fcae terrorists and show their mettle.
Any body sheltering such criminals should be bycotted by public and they should be debarred from occupying any public office.Unless such strict measures are initiated, I am sure while I am here raising my concern about tigers by away of this blog, some tiger may have been poached by a poacher.

Tiger is our national asset, who’s life is in danger. We have to work as a team to save the life of our National Animal.
As today all of us wash offf their hands from our duties towards the enviornment and animals such as “TIGER”. If we don’t act now, we could lose this part of our heritage forever”. It’s not just to save “TIGER” infact we have to be dedicated towrds the whole enviornmet. It’s just because of the people cut the forest in huge amount for their own selfishness. And day by day there is an increase in jungle of concrete. The main cause of distruction of “TIGER” are human being.
I would like that the all the people including senior citizens, youngster, and even emloyees of govt. employees should come forward and take part in this mission of saving “Tiger”.
At last we would like to meke personel request to those people who kill the “TIGER’s” just to make money. It’s our national property and we all have to save it. So that our next comming generation can feel the same pride for our national animal “TIGER”.
Its a pity that our national animal has become so less in number, but i feel that this initiative has made us realize that a lot of us feel that we can save our national animal and its possible as well. I feel the government can help us out in a very big way and make our national animal again ROAR….!!!!
I really appreciate AIRCEL & WWF for taking an initiative in this direction and showing us the way forward to contributing to this campaign. In my opinion we have only two options left with us, either ROAR today, to save the tiger, or get ready for another opinion poll to choose the new national animal.
I was having my dinner and was having a glance at the TV now & then..suddenly it appears : ONLY 1411 ARE LEFT. The first reaction i gave was OH MY GOD… What are we all doing to the animal which is so called our national animal. If there was a time to act against the atrocities on tigers, it is now…yes now only when you are reading this…But how????? We are common man…We cant go to the minister’s office regarding this matter coz we wont be allowed… but we surely can spread awareness about it through orkut, facebook, emails……. Dont buy the products which contains a single part of tiger…Small contribution from billions of indians, collectively, would surely bring a huge storm in our country and will put an end to the fast declining number of tigers, our national animal…… so ACT NOW before its too late… Save our national heritage….. SAVE OUR TIGERS.
It’s really heartening to see such a noble, important and serious issue being raised by Aircel…It’s a pity that we are losing our national animal every day and we are not even aware about it. The campaign will certainly highlight 1411 and every individual has to be worried about it…we, as an individual, might not be able to participate directly in preserving, but our voices would definitely make this initiative roar…I have seen the elegance, the pride and the aura which a tiger carries in wild…it’s a symbol for our nation…let’s keep it alive…let’s do our bit..
I appreciate the initiative of Aircel for TIGER conservation, but I don’t feel that, the government is giving their all efforts to save this Magnificent animal . as I studied and found the Poaching is less dangerous than the revenge of nearby cattle owner. The procedure of providing Cattle compensation is too lengthy and full of corruption like any other department. I heard an example, one man who owns 6 cattle near the core are of a tiger reserve, and these catles were the only source of income for him to feed his family. All his catle were killed by the tigress within week time around two months ago, and still he is waiting for the nominal compensation. This behavior of government leads the nearby villagers to take revenge with the tiger.
Students of Niraj International School took up the cause for Stripey with a host of activities on campus. A thought provoking PPT on the tiger’s endangered status, slogan writing, poster making, a mural of pug marks with messages inside them by students and staff, screening of a movie related to the theme, fancy dress show, etc.

Recently I visited Chilla region of Rajaji National Park. Outside the gate tiger seconds the list of animals available in that forest. Inside story was totally different. Even the forest guards have not seen a single tiger for last 5-6 years.
If we list the issues to be solved for our country, then perhaps this issue is easiest in a list difficult tasks. No political dispute, no internationally burning issues, no terrorism, no fundamental forces, no regional conflicts, no class fights, no mass movement are there fortunately. Prime minister is taking lead here; meetings after meetings are conducted. At the end, almost nothing has happened and few hundreds of poachers are consistently winning over the entire country. If we are unable to solve this issue, then I don’t have any faith that other more difficult issues will be solved in foreseeable future. Leaders of this country are again setting a very weak example in this regard and leaving plenty of reasons, why one must not believe them in any sphere of life. In intention is right, then it would have been a different story with helicopter patrolling, modernized weapons for forest guards, more number of forest guards, better training, heavy and faster punishment, more agents/ spy in the local areas of the jungles, better communications, utilization of on-line satellite monitoring and so on. Nothing or little has been done on these fronts.
May ‘God’ save our tigers, us and our country.
Hi All,
Its really sad to know that our National Animal’s count is getting less day by day. We all should feel shame for this.I feel we all should work as a Team to work towards this mission of Saving The Tigers. This needs utmost care & security to be provided at National Parks. If Govt. can not provide full security to any place, that place should be privatize, so that at least any one person/organization can be asked for anything at any point.
Hii All Indians!!!
WWF has done a tremendous job by taking the initiative of saving our tigers and this effort should be whole heartedly motivated and supported. I feel that it is our duty to be informed and be aware of the fast declining numbers of tigers. come on everyone its high time now only 1411 tigers are left just imagine India which is often called as “THE LAND OF TIGER”….
So Wake up!!!! Save Tigers
On 15th Feb 2010 THE HINDU , http://www.thehindu.com/2010/02/15/stories/2010021560031100.htm reported one tiger to be found dead in Kaziranga. The count is now 1410
Please do one thing
rise the value of the skin of our politicians a bit more, everything will be fine.
because they are only very good at saving their own skins, not anything else.
It is our misfortune that we are losing our national animal…our national heritage is at stake. We need to take initiatives to save our tigers. We cannot take all this lightly,it does affects all of us.It is our contractual obligation to save them.Let us join our hands together and take a pledge to save them. Please show your concern towards them,it is my humble request….Please save our national animal TIGER
hi,
its good to know that aircel has actually taken this initiative to make the people aware of the exintinction of tigers in our country. what we can actually do is spreading more and more awareness about protecting our tigers, informing more and more people to join this save our tigers program. telling them the various ways by which they can bring about a change. bringing some new ideas which will actually help to save the existing species and how can we increase their number. the figure 1141 indicates that its high time we stand up and join for the noble cause of saving our tigers. more and more innovative ideas can actually help to save existing ones and will also help in increasing their number. lets make a diffrence by joining this initiative. become a tiger to save our tigers.
thank you
It is really sad that just in a century, count of our national animal decreased so much. If so many people are ready to help them survive then, We must propose some solution to save the tigers.
We must raise this issue to the government and force them to take some steps towards this purpose. It is surprising that Tiger, our national animal, is about to be finished and nobody was thinking of it. Even nobody in common public was aware of it.
Now it is the critical time for us to help the organizations which are working for this purpose.
It’s our National Animal but it is a shame for us that we can’t save them from being extinct.
We should stop using wooden items that will preserve our forest and in a way there will be space for them to live.
For the generations to come it will be an antique piece which they will only read in books or see in museum, as we are seeing the Dianasour.
I appeal to everybody to stop using animal fur and also encourage people to spread this message.
Friends,
It is true that tigers r really on a verge of extinct in the INDIA and WORLD so we have to do only one thing that will change the whole world scene i.e. spreading awareness that how much important this tigers r for our life, if tigers r not there than the whole food chain will get destroy and will rather lead to human being. For this we also have to save our forest, so that other problems like Global warming etc can be get rid as soon as possible, so Also take a Pledge to plant some trees each one, grow one than only we can lead our nation and world in TRUE SENSE.
We all Love our Tigers, so take pledge that our next generation never ask that how Tigers look like, do every possible thing from our side.
Feeling unsecured in our own land. Our national animal is getting hunted all over and all time.No one is doing anything uptil now.
thanx to Aircel and WWF..Plz keep Roaring and roaring and roarrrriiinnnggg…
ROARRRR.. so that this can reach to the eARS of every indian…
All the very best!!!
Hi everybody,
Do you know how many resorts are there in the vicinity of Corbett National Park? It’s an overwhelming, mind blowing 72. During the marriages, new year, christmas, and so many other days, the resorts are full of tourists. This has hindered the pass for tigers to Rajaji Park. These passes are important as they accommodate the tigers which cannot find peace in corbett. The resorts have come up and blocked them. Moreover, the line of cars passing during peak season is so long and a wild animal like tiger will never cross, hindering his natural lifestyle. Also, the loud music and honks disturb every wild animals.
I think this situation exists in other parks as well.
It is my request to any social activist reading this to take a PIL concerning this issue to the supreme court. There must be some steps taken. According to me, this a legal poaching of animals(not to mention the resorts are minting money in huge numbers).
Thanks for reading my post,
Sarthak Singhal
Great Effort on the part of all concerned. Let of us do our bit to save this great animal. Nothing beats catching a glimpse of a tiger in the wild. May our concerted efforts bear fruit. May God bless the tigers !!.
What irks me the most is the heartlessness of these poachers!! How do they even feel like laying a finger on these beautiful and majestic creatures that have a life as well as a family of their own?! Apart from being a significant part of our national heritage tigers are also inheritors of this world just like the rest of us and we have absolutely no right to kill them just for some material pleasure that wont even last forever! Lets now adopt some more honest and selfless ways to make a living, shall we?
Humans are most intelligent species on earth. We learnt how to make fire by rubbing stones. We moved from leaves and herbs to cloths to cover our bodies. we have shown our dominance in transportation by making horses, bulls, elephants as our transporters. But we do have something which others don’t have. We have some thing called consciousness which is not present in any other animal. Consciousness to make decision between good and bad, right and wrong. What am I trying to say is please take a right decision to protect our national animal. Killing for pleasure is a sin.
I can suggest few ideas which could help in protecting them .
Oppose deforestation, Cutting down of trees as tigers need forests for their survival.
Avoid Leather products.
There are schemes where you can adopt an animal. If u can afford.
Let us join together to preserve and protect our national heritage.
Hey all
First of please accept my apologies to join the nitiative a little late.
I think its high time that we all join hands and make this initiative a revolution………….i will keep on donating my views through my blog at http://tigerrescue.blogspot.com/
You all are welcome to leave comments, all i need is your support.
You have to see the TIGER in the wild to really feel the magnificence of this beautiful animal. And to think that my children may never have this wonderful experience is somewhat disconcerting. But come to think of it, even if it was not such a splendid animal, any animal on the verge of extinction, in front of our eyes should be a shame on us, humans, who live a life of plethora. I strongly feel that one way of helping the TIGERS should be to make the laws against poaching so stringent that it equals murder. And saving the TIGER also includes saving their natural habitat, ie.,FOREST. I sincerely wish that this initiative helps to add “1″ more to the number of tigers, so that our future generation gets to see “11411″ TIGERS
Really this is fantastic job by which we can save our national animal. We have no right to kill any living been if we can’t creat them. All together we can collectively can do the best.Ministry of forest has to take some necessary and strict action to save the tigers.hope for the best.
In 100 years the number has come down from 40000 to 1411. What a pity. If we dont act now seriously we would end up seeing them in only books and magazines. It is a very good initiative taken by Aircel. My full support is with them. I shall do what ever i can do to protect our heritage.
Let us join together and roar at the world….. SAVE THE TIGERS
save our tigers
only 1400 tigers left in our country
our national animal the tiger group is in danger…they are being killed for value of money…the thing which is a shame to us is that these activities are done by indians only…is this the right thing to kill our national animal…no we have to stop it…tigers families are like our family only the young one will be in starvation untill the mother tiger will bring back something for the young ones…how our peoples are engaged in doing this activities…WE HAVE TO STOP THIS AND ONLY WE CAN DO SO…
WHAT WE HAVE TO DO IS TO WRITE BLOGS AND PUBLISH IN THE FREE SITES…LET THE PEOPLE COME TO KNOW ABOUT THIS…AND LET’S ARANGE A GROUP AND BRING AWARNESS TO THE PEOPLES…
ONLY WE CAN DO IT AND WE WILL DO IT…
HOW MANY OF U WILL BE THERE WITH ME AND RAISING THE SLOGAN “SAVE INDIA SAVE TIGERS”
FRIENDS I GOT U PEOPLES ONLY TO DO THIS AND WITH THIS IF WE CAN SAVE OUR TIGERS THEN THIS WILL BE OUR LIFETIME ACHIVEMENT…
The most magnificent animal! India’s pride! The tiger should never be allowed to perish. We need to take very stern action against the corrupt officials who abet such crimes and also against the poachers. The best thing is to make strong fences around the national parks and forbid entry of people. Leave the tigers alone in their habitat and do not disturb them. I feel, that not distturbing them is the best way to foster their numbers. In places like Uttarakhand, we have trains moving right across the Rajaji Natinal park, causing accidents of elephants and tigers. We should ensure that animals are protected against such intrusions.
AIRCEL AND ALL THE INITIATORS AND SUPPORTERS OF SAVE OUR TIGERS ARE DOING A GREAT JOB BY BRINGING OUR ATTENTION TO THE SEVERITY OF THE ISSUE.
THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT WE HAVE TO UNDERSTAND IS THAT TIGERS HAVE AS MUCH RIGHT TO LIVE WITHUOT FEAR AS WE HUMANS OR ANY OTHER LIVING BEINGS HAVE. POACHERS IN PARTICULAR SHOULD UNDERSTAND THAT RIGHT TO LIFE IS AS IMPORTANT TO TIGERS AND OTHER LIVING BEINGS AS IT IS TO US.
IT IS HIGH TIME WE REALISED ALSO THAT TIGERS FORM A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF THE ECOLOGICAL SYSTEM AND IF TIGERS ARE NOT PROTECTED WE ALL WILL HAVE TO FACE DIRE CONSEQUENCES OF THE ECOLOGICAL IMBALANCE WHICH WE OURSELVES HAVE CAUSED. WHERE ARE WE HEADED TO IF OUR NATIONAL ANIMAL ITSELF IS ENDANGERED?
STOP POACHING AND PUNISH POACHERS SEVERLY. ALSO STOP CUTTING DOWN FORESTS AND GROW FORESTS WHICH ARE NATURAL HABITATS OF TIGERS.
If this country is serious about saving the tiger then the roar has to be on a huge level. This poaching racket is spreaded among forest officials, politicians and smugglers dealing in tiger body parts.Citizens will have to pressure the govt to amend laws and demand death penalty for poachers along with social boycott of their families. Its time to fight this scourge with vengenance.Death to poachers and everybody responsible for killing of the tigers.May God burn them in hell.
