The main attraction for poachers is the price that the Chinese pay for tiger parts. China needs to enact legislation to ban the trade in tiger parts as well as their use in traditional Chinese medicine. This can only happen with the pressure of worldwide public opinion . Let each one of us write/fax or mail the Chinese Embassy in India to protest their contribution to the decimation of tigers in India.

  4. PRASOON SHUKLA says:

It is a good move that now we are at least realizing that we have encroached their land directly or indirectly and they are important part of our ecosystem, if really we are serious for TIGERS then first of all we should do something for some serious issues

Physical Boundary marking of national parks
    Official lethargy of wildlife officials
    More voluntary involvement
we must think about our behavior and attitude when we visit any national park, or zoo
we must make people aware about importance of tigers
we must strengthen our present system of stopping illegal and poaching
we must make people aware about CITES
we must go green by our attitude rather then by using green accessories
WE must have some training module for wildlife conservation
we must encourage our youth to do the same for which some employment in wildlife conservation can be generated

“IF THERE IS A WILL THEN THERE IS WAY”

hopefully if we think once by heart we can make the difference after all they are our NATIONAL ANIMALS

  5. Lonnie Ryll says:

Animal mistreatment has forever rattled me. It appears like it is getting worse, at least where I live. But there are still generous individuals out there who feel like I do that we must take care of them. I hope the judicial system will match up with our means of believing about this. It is still treated as a relatively minor crime. That’s wrong.

  6. sharda says:

WWF and Aircel is doing a noble task by bring the unspoken plea of our tigers to spare their life for petty. Cheers to their campaign. TIGER is a symbol of fierce and we must do our every bit to preserve them for generations to come. let future generation be lucky enough to see this creature.

  7. anjali says:

tiger is our national animal. its our responsibility to protect it to conserve this valuable jewel of ours.
we cannot think of progressing at the stake of loosing national jewels.
we have already lost many as these in the name of development & prosperity.we will not let it happen this time….

i appreciate the bold and noble initiative taken by aircel in collaboration with WWF and as we all know…
NO PRAY GOES UNLISTENED BY GOD…..this effort will surely bore its sweet fruit…….

  8. Avinash Haridas says:

The poachers, each & every person involved with the killing of the tigers and their smuggling should be directly hanged, no case, no hearing, no sentences like the Mumbai Police do with the gangsters. These poachers are very much equal to the terrorist who are spreading the terrorism. Many peoples are interested in politics & cricket they just don’t care if tigers are getting killed mercilessly. Each & every individual should come forward & raise their voice, i am very greatful to M. S. Dhoni for the support to this initiative and more and more celebrity & Social Service Institutions should join this cause it will make a huge difference. And one more thing in cinema when a scene is shot on any animal the so called institutions & activites shout from top of the roof that the producers & director is doing cruelty towards animals, now where are they?

  9. Gagandeep Arora says:

After seeing the initiative i thought bad for my Grand Pa …. who gifted me 2 tiger claws on my 18th bday i used to proud of wearing them but now i curse my Pa for being involved in decreasing 1 tiger in indian count

i m their with u Aircel and WWF whole heartedly

  11. Shalini says:

    Hi all,

It’s quite disheartening to know that soon we won’t be able to see the King of the Jungle. The royal animal that is praised for its excellent hunting techniques, majestic walk, and awe inspiring appearance would soon be a thing of the past. It’s not just the hunters who are responsible for the entire fuss. It’s we all who feel pride in using stuffs made of it’s skin. It’s really shameful that even the so called elite ones don’t understand and respect the very need of eco system that can’t be preserved until every element of it is safe. And of course tiger is the most prominent of them all. The earth isn’t just for us to live and thrive. It’s equally made for the floura and the fauna without which the ecological system would collapse. So, why is it that only we are expanding incessantly? Why don’t we try to curb our number? Why don’t we consider human population control seriously? I guess that’s the only solution to all problems - whether it’s to save the royal tiger or just ensure good life to all humans.

  12. shivraj singh walia says:

As all of us know that only 1411 tigers or may be less are left, lets all of us join together to save this beautiful animal by doing what we can like by organising awairness camps, educating people ,raising funds and making a dedicated and animanl loving team consisting of industy heads, politicians, burecats and foreign experts.
If we are not going to react now than our coming generation will only see tigers in pictures or at the most in zoo.
So now is the time for all the indian and animal lovers to plan and help insaving Tigers.

  13. Sreenivas J says:

signing petitions wont serve any purpose though i have signed it myself. We all have to collectively do something. blaming china and east asia market also wont help. we have to start a movement, a public appeal or a peaceful agitation that will force the government to make laws more stringent. even in a place like africa where corruption is rampant, poachers are shot at sight. standing orders from the respective governments. we have a multi-billion dollar defence budget but we dont have enough resources and men to protect our national animal because the government does not think that making our national parks and sanctuaries poacher-free is important. We have to force the government to act tough. when half of India can rise to defend shah rukh khan and watch his film in spite of threats why cant we do something like to save our tigers?

  14. Pankaj Sharma says:

Tigers ka Shikar apne hi des ke log karte hai koi bahar se akar nahi karta hai esliye un logo ko rokna hoga jo jungle mai jakar unka shikar karte aur tigers ke body parts ko bahar bechte hai jiske liye BSF ko sakhti se kam lena hoga.

warna tigers sirf books mai hi rah jayenge.

and thanks to Aircel and all that pepole who serve for save our tigers

  15. durga says:

hey i want my dear tigers to live longer than us… they are the most beautiful animals in the world.. but it is so embarassing that india has least no. of tigers left…. thanks to Aircel and WWF that there is a hope to save our beautiful freinds…

  16. Awdhesh says:

    Hi All,

I was thinking it is difficult to secure our tigers in different locations as poachers are threat to them. Why cannot we select a single location where we can make sure that it is a secure location and shift all our tigers there. By this we can make sure that it has full proof security and will be a good place to breed and increase their number.

  17. Mohit says:

Saving our national animal “TIGER” is very much necessary as saving out national anthem, national language, national game and many more and even animals which will be extinct like earlier animals are no more in this world so steps towards saving them from now will help them to survive in this world so AIRCEL and WWF nice effort and will help any way i can god bless us all in saving our tigers. Amen!

  18. Suman Acharjee says:

Hi, They call me Suman. I am very glad to see the efforts of all our countrymen to save our national animal. I also want to share some thoughts of mine about this project. I am worried about the government who are now just fighting for the seats and other issues (not so important). Its a practical thing to be remembered that this is a very costly project that cannot be accomplished by the ecnomical helping hands of our Government. I’m not telling that Govt. isn’t worried about this issue. But if we really want some magi to save the roars of our tigers we have to make the Govt. more conscious about this.
I’m not a student of biological science but I know that Tigers are one of the most important members of our food chain. If they will be vanished, at first from our coutry then from our world, Then we the humans will also be in danger with no doubt.
As I’m from West Bengal , I have seen Royal Bengal Tigers from a distance of about 4-5 feets. Ask me what is the beauty o this animal. If we lost them that will be loosing another KOHINOOR once again. Believe me folks.

  19. suvrantu says:

hi i am really worried about the future of the tigers. i really cant even belive its happening. but i have an idea again. first we have to stop deforestation, then to stop those hunters and followed by that preserving the other animals alongwith the forest itself so that the eco system will remain normal. maybe those steps are not as simple as we think to bring it into reality but this is high time to act not only to think. i am really hopeful that we will overcome & will be able to bring back their numbers to a better position.

thank & god bless u all
    plz pray for them.

  20. Sandeep Gulavani says:

Its my pleasure that I have joined this great program, for saving Tigers. Yes its a program, which requirs in all over India. There is a good news for Tiger lovers. 3 or 4 days before there was a news in our local news paper Sakal,[ I stays in Kolhapur Maharashtra] that the Forest Department from Dajipur centuary found pugmarks of a Tiger overhere. Forest Department have arranged a automatic Camera to found this Tiger and they were lucky that they catched him in the automatic camera. All the members from Forest Department were very happy to see him because they have seen tiger after so many years in this area. All the tiger lovers are very happy after getting this news.

  21. Kiran says:

Awdhesh’s idea is not bad. It actually looks like being the only scope to save tigers. Like how Barkha and gang mentioned, we dont reside near the natural habitats of tigers. People in and around those forest regions are the ones who arent educated enough to see what they are sacrificing for their meagre and temporary benefits. Since keeping them under check is a very difficult task, we are not left with many options.

Probably try and get as many tigers into a limited one or two sanctuaries. (Not sure of the feasibility) I know there might be loads of issues attached to this.
Arrange all logistics possible around those particular forest areas, including high level security (inlcluding cams on the border walls), to ensure poachers dont have access.
The government to observe a red alert situation in those areas and involve people at all levels across all organizations, since it incurs great cost.
From science to politics, Indians or foreigners (the best equipped scientists and naturalists to work for those sanctuaries).
The most diffucult and the last one is to commit all celebrities to involve themselves in this activity of campaigning for the same.

Cricket, Cinema and Politics… Most of Indians wherever they belong from, would be interested in celebrities in any of these fields. If they voice out this crisis, we can be partially sure that it would be heard. How much ever we discuss in these blogs, the essence of the whole issue might not reach the actual kind who are responsible for the same.

If STARS from all domains step in for this noble cause, they would influence millions… much more than how many we can voice out to.

  22. Deepak Acharya says:

    Hi All,

It is indeed saddening, Tiger being our National animal is under threat! The government should wake up now and endeavour to save tigers.

Also as responsible citizens, we all should ensure we contribute towards conservation of tigers. It is a collective effort and no single man’s job.

  23. Vipul says:

If each and every individual committ to not to get involved in killing or supporting the killers, then the present strength of tigers will defetinely be increased. For this our Forest Deptt. has to be more concious. It has been noted that people from forest department take handsome amount from the poachers and allow them to kill the speachless animals. We should not forget that animals are also saving our lives. As we do not allow strengers to our home, we should not interfere in the kingdom of animals.

Thanks to Aircel and WWF, for giving this valuable information about Tigers. We are with you. Keep it up.

Conservation Group Warns Wild Tiger Population Facing Extinction, Urges Better Protections
“If no immediate action is taken to protect the wild tiger’s population and habitat, then there is a high risk of extinction in 12 years.” - WWF’s Zhu Chunquan
The Year of the Tiger starts in a few days in China. Among the elaborate celebrations will be the start of a last-ditch drive to save the 50 remaining wild tigers in the country.

China is awash with images of orange and black-striped big cats as the country prepares to usher in the Year of the Tiger on Sunday.

Yet for all the traditional sentiment toward one of the most revered animals in the Chinese Zodiac, 2010 could be a make-or- break year for wild tigers in China.

Since the last Year of the Tiger 12 years ago, the worldwide population of wild tigers has almost halved to 3,200.

Zhu Chunquan is the conservation director of the wildlife protection group WWF in Beijing. He says unless action is taken now, there will be no more wild tigers in China by the next year of the Tiger.

“If no immediate action is taken to protect the wild tiger’s population and habitat, then there is a high risk of extinction in 12 years,” he said.

The South China tiger has not been seen in the wild for 25 years and is believed to be extinct.

China’s three other species are also in peril.

The WWF this week said there are fewer than 50 Chinese tigers left in the wild - and the pressure on them is mounting as the country continues its breakneck economic development.

    AP
A white tiger rests inside an enclosure at Beijing Zoo in China, 08 Feb 2010
As cities and farms expand, tigers lose places to live and food to eat. Poachers threaten both the tigers and their prey.

Compounding the threat is the illegal trade of tiger parts used in traditional Chinese medicine, which continues despite a 17-year ban on the practice.

In northeastern China near the Russian border, the struggle to bring the Amur - or Siberian - tiger back from the brink has the backing of the World Bank.

It is funding a program worth several billion dollars to boost the population to a sustainable level.

The head of the bank’s China environment program, Carter Brandon, says the survival of the species is no longer an issue of conservation but instead one of development.

“The area required for a sizable tiger population is much greater than China can put aside in the form of formal protective areas,” explained Brandon. “Protective areas are great but there’s a lot of people up in the northeast, and each tiger requires something like 70,000 hectares - 700 square kilometers - for a sustainable area for 50 tigers. That’s a huge area,” he said.

Despite the grim warnings, the WWF’s Zhu says there is room for optimism.

He says China shows the political will to save wild tigers by signing on to international agreements.

And efforts similar to those used to save the panda from extinction are now being used to help the tiger.

“With awareness increasing and also more government actions and investment and with also local communities and local forestry support, and the global community’s help, we believe the tiger’s recovery in China has great hope,” Zhu said.

The battle to save the tiger is of course not exclusive to China.

The first Asian ministerial conference on the issue was held in Thailand last week.

It set a goal of doubling the wild population by the start of the next tiger year in 2022.

And an international tiger summit will convene in September in Russia.

n our nation we are decreasing the no of nationalanimal of our country
i am saying only one thing that we shoooooooooooooud roooooaaar for our tigers .

    hello everybody,
let us all put our efforts together for the save our tigers campaign. let the story of the king of the forest be continued in the future generations to come. the tiger has made a journey from the icy forests of siberia to down south of asia mainly now in indo china region. they have adapted to the climate and habitat so well over the centuries and now due to rampant poaching and the other most important thing in capital letters i want to stress is STOP THE DEFFORESTATION AND PROTECT THE LAND OF THE TIGER TO SAVE THE TIGER. IF THERE ARE NO FOREST COVER WE WILL LOSE THE TIGERS EVEN FASTER.
spread the awareness my dear firends.
we can make a change for the future.

whatever it may be message, mail, tweet lets just spread the word even if it is telling your cousins or family members or mentioning about this to a online friend while chatting.

  30. “Tiger, Tiger Burning Bright…In the Jungles of the Night”

    Hi everybody,
I am a businessman and nature lover from Nagpur-Maharashtra, My city is surrounded with amazing sanctuaries like Tadoba, pench, Kanha and Bandhavgarh. But sadly the villagers are moving too fast inside the jungle to make their living and Man-Animal conflicts are very very common and last year itself a Fully grown tiger was shot dead “Mistakenly” as the Man eater who created havoc in the adjoining areas killing 5 people in a month itself…It was a sad day and till date the so called forest rangers couldn’t find the real man eater tiger the news was flashed with the picture of the brave forest ranger with killed tiger on top of a jeep for few days but then it was a faded story and literally nobody cared to ask that why was the tiger killed?? why wasn’t it captured and put in captivity or something?
WHAT WAS THE NEED TO SHOOT IT?
    WHO ORDERED??
But bygones are bygones…news faded and another rare full grown tiger was “KILLED”

Till date every third day the second page of TIMES OF INDIA (Nagpur-edition) caries a story of humans mauled by tigers or Leopard in Tadoba range of forest, but literally the rangers and the officers will just give some mere compensation to the family of the victim and let it go. They won’t lay a trap or make people understand and take measures to reduce human-animal conflicts. Literally villagers have no other choice then to kill the animal by poisoning or electric shock.

I am asking why isn’t there any action taken either to move the villagers or do something for the wild animals out there??
HOW DO THE FOREIGNERS IN SOUTH AFRICA AND KENYA HAVE MANAGED TO KEEP THEIR WILD LIFE SAFE?
IF THEY CAN DO IT THEN WHY CAN’T WE?
    Do we lack manforce?
    Do we lack funds?
What is it that we cannot do it?

I have another question in my mind, If the Tadoba, Mul, Pench, Kanha, Bandhavgarh are declared wild life sanctuaries by the government itself then WHY THE HELL ARE PEOPLE ALLOWED TO LIVE INSIDE THE DAMN JUNGLE, the government isn’t that much capable of providing them land outside the premises of jungle or what?

This is the next big issue which should be taken much more seriously then global warming and other things, Central government allots funds to state government but do they even care to see if the funds reach the right hands or is properly utilised?
    I don’t think so?

In 2008, I tried to contact Mr.Dave Salmoni to do something for the tigers and leopards in distress in tadoba and adjoining areas after watching his documentary on NGC, Living with tigers, etc and while searching for him I got to know about a site for tiger conservation, the site is http://www.careforthewild.com and some Ms. Lucie Evans, Habitat & Species Protection Programme Officer from the site replied me but they refused to provide any sort of help because I wasn’t from a registered NGO or something they do not respond to individuals.

In the same year some 8 Leopards and 2 tigers were trapped in cages meant to capture the man eaters, strangely these animals were brought to MaharajaBag Zoo in Nagpur (instead of releasing to some deep forest areas) Kept in mere 4×6 cage these animals were in agony for months.
Media too plays hide and seek, they do inform about tigers and leopards brought but they do not inform about their treatments or release. Thats nice.

I need some help from you guys here, I don’t know how many of you will read my post but even if some of you read please let me know if I can be of any help to bring it to the attention of our sleeping government and forest rangers and officials about one of the most beautiful most strong and most magnificent animal..The Tiger

I will further keep posting about the Tigers and wildlife in distress in areas around my city.
Thanks for providing this blog, Atleast now I can inform others about what I know.

I would like 2 request every Indian 2 be aware & take steps 2 save our tigers.
I would like 2 thank Aircel for this noble task, which they are doing and I would like other associations to follow this example. We hope their campaign turns up to be successful, so that even our children can get to see this wonderful animal instead of only the big malls & multiplexes.
    C’mon guys,lets show our power……

  34. Deepesh Misra says:

Its really nice to see such a initiative to save our tigers! yes! we all are responsible either directly or indirectly for the present condition of our NATIONAL ANIMAL. actually we have a habit of playing with our NATION. We declare things as our NATIONALS, and get off our duties from them, leave that to GOVERNMENTAL implementation. Today what we are facing with our NATIONAL ANIMAL, no way to surprise to see the same with our NATIONAL BIRD too.
“If we are not a part of solution then we are the primary problem,” please getup and see what we can do…

today,i have read a news that china is going to legalize trade in tiger parts.if this happens, our tigers will be disappeared within 2 or 3 years.what a shame on us,the fate of our tigers lies in the hands of chinese.will the chinese remain silent if we do any harm to their endangered animals.our Govt. should wake up and mount presuure on china to stop illegal trade in tiger, rhino and other wild animal’s body parts and punish severely those who are using the fake traditional medicines made of the parts.

  37. mohit gola says:

if we have to protect our national animal tigers from getting extient then we have to protect their home forest from getting destroyed by people by illegal cutting of trees because if forest are not there then where tigers are survive another thing is if we have increase the tigers population in the country then we have to start breeding programme of tigers across the country in all zoos, boisphere reserve ,national parks and made some special instutions for breeding of tigers for example if we put 10 tigers in that instutions 5 males and 5 females
then after their breeding each pair will give birth to 3 to 4 cubs means total is between 15 to 20 cubs that will be look after by management of that instutions then after 2 years make the breeding of these tigers in the instutions and think onily 5 instutions are open for this breeding programme then think of future tigers population through these instutions as it is the best way that help us to protect our tigers because at present all major tigers populations are present in wild and it is very diffcult for us to protect them from various danger like tiger killings by huntres for their skin that is the major probleum us

  38. Shivam gupta says:

Human beings kept on harrashing the nature and its substituents since ever they came into existence to fulfil their own needs. We are the most selfish community residing on the planet earth. Due to our selfishness many species have been sweeped off and many of them got emdangered. Out of them a animal about which indians must think to save is TIGER. It is our national animal and hence it is one of the recognisation symbol to make us stand in the world. But it is a stunning fact that we are losing this lovely animal rapidly. They are remained in such a small number such that they can be counted easily. This disaster happened due to our greedy nature. In older days kings killed them to show their prestige but what is d justice in killing an animal which didnt attack till disturbed? And nowadays we kill them to prepare rubbish medicines, doormates etc. And we, the common people buy them to encourage killing of tigers. And for all this we blame government that it does not take any serious steps regarding this problem. Government has started the project tiger which retarded killing of tigers but didnt stopped. A little is the responsability of government but the major contribution is of the people who want to get them reputed and buy these rubbish. Even this wud stop but nothing wud happen as we wud not stop cutting forests which are their natural home. On an average about 100acre of forest is cut daily. Tigers wud not remain in existence till their natural habitat is not available to them. They make our life adventrous and playful. We have to change our way of thinking to retain our world as glorious and charming as it is now such that d nxt generation is able to enjoy their life. So that they didnt blame us for what we give them which we had borrowed from them. So take steps to not only save tiger but also ur soul to be blamed or abused.

  39. Nishant A. Indulkar says:

    Dear All !!

Its a wake up call or else time has gone no longer that we will be showing only the left species and carcses of our national animal to our further generations as we show today of many,,,, who have been disappeared already……….

Its time to come together and I like to put forward and express my gratitude to everyone for their initiative taken for this task to make us aware and reminding our responsibility as Indian.

  40. Chindhan.T.M says:

I feel proud that our Indians have submitted thousands of articles related to this issue.I salute each and every individual for their contribution.Though awareness about pouching of tigers is being carried out in full swing still we have to contribute a lot to protect and develop its habitat. As an MBA student of Anna University Tiruchirappalli i personally feel that a management course about wildlife should be started. Surely it will create positive vibrations among the educated people. It will help to reach the people a bit easier……Long Live Our Tigers….

  41. Manpreet singh says:

I read the post of Gurvinder singh Osan. He has highlighted some key points that the govt. should consider and act upon. It is already too late and the time is running out of our hands. Plz act now by forcing hte govt. to do something or rather a lot of things.

Not only Tigers are being killed but other animals like leapords, lions, etc are being killed and This has to stop somehow otherwise there’ll be no more left.

So plz do something. I beg……

I live in Mumbai i know many people who live in powai & goregaon the bunglows and bldgs in these areas have come up on forest land which is home of animals only weare tobe blamed for this people have seen tigers coming in their bldgs because their homes have been snatched by humanbeings which should be stopped immediately . When i saw picture of tiger in a newspaper hanged on bamboos blood being taken out from his body and was being watched many peoples which was very horrible for few lakhs of rupees the had killed the tiger I pray to god and request the concerned forest dept peoples to see that this cruelty stops immediately I am shouting from top of the roof PLEASE STOP THIS SPARE ALL THE ANIMALS PLEASE STOP THIS.

  45. thanks to aircel and wwf for this initiative.
    hello everybody
To save the tigers we should realize that day by day we are encroaching their areas ,land and we should stop deforestation. also interaction of youths is very important. we should aware villagers that tigers are not encroaching ,we are encroaching in their areas . only it can reduce the clash between tigers and human. each & every individual should come forward & raise their voice to stop killing tigers and smuggling of tigers.
now our forest departments need energetic youth to work with them to save wild life.

Tiger is our National animal and our duity is to save them. Because the word “Tiger” carry our culture, tradition. We are Indian and our aggressivenes is compare with Tiger. So our duity is to hold it.
Now a days our big problem is “Save tree”. But on the other hand the another big and important problem is “Save Tiger”. We have to find out the way through which we can save our national animal’s life now and future also.
It is not possible for a particular person to save tiger. For this work we have to make a unity. I hope everyone will come and join in this “Save Tiger” camp and thanks to Aircel for this work.

    hiiii
i am very glad to see that all of us are trying to put our efforts to save tigers i want to say something on behalf of myself i have listen in many websites and news that the hunters who kill tigers for their skin are one major cause and second cause is humans as humans demands for more needs and the forest areas are being cleared for the development of cities industries etc in simple words we are destroying the natural habitat of animals which make them rush into towns and cities as they have no place to live and they attack humans then to save tigers government try to launch a sanctuary for tigers with tight security even then hunters enter the enterance and kill animals just think about it if we continue like this there will be no animal left on earth my thinking is that there should be stict security and take strict actions who want to give harm to this animals just think if we were on their place what would happen so friends keep continuing this good work as the future is in our hands its our choice whether to save tigers or not we should have some moral values and be kind to all living creatures

    hi everyone…
kudos to aircel for joining wwf-india in save our tigers mission. if other corporates can be encouraged to join the campaign and start a lobby for environmental purposes it could be of great help. in a country where money and political patronage is the real deal maybe we could use it for a good purpose. i have always be an admirer of the majestic tiger and am glad to join this campaign.
